life is good

Is they any better combination than the New York Mets and Jon Stewart? Not in my world.

is butter a carb?

Rachel and I have yet to unlock the formula to healthy eating. I take that back, we know how to eat well; we just can't motivate to do it. We made pacts and promises but nothing really sank in. We said we would tell each other when we are cheating or deviating from our goal but telling your spouse (weird, right?) what to eat and what not to eat can only end badly.

That brings us to today where the magic of advertising conjured up a mad craving for Rachel. The enemy: the new Monster Cookie Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Before we left Rachel wanted to check the nutritional facts online. This little venture snowballed into an hour-long nutrition fact search on all of our common vices. Needless to say, we did not get the Blizzard but instead opt for the lesser McDonald's soft-serve ice cream cone (baby steps). We decided that we should always agree to check these nutritional facts before we go out to eat because it truly is disgusting.

I was really interested to check out two meals from Chili's that I regularly ate a couple years back. It is no secret that Rachel and I struggle with home cooking but we have improved slightly. However, sophomore year I switched off between Chili's Triple Play (appetizer sampler) and their Chicken Fried Steak every time we went there which is more than I care to admit. Here are their nutritional facts:

Triple Play:
Calories: 2330
Fat(g): 177
Sat Fat(g): 31
Carbs(g): 96
Protein(g): 91
Fiber(g): 9
Sodium(mg): 5360

Chicken Fried Steak:
Calories: 1890
Fat(g): 107
Sat Fat(g): 29
Carbs(g): 148
Protein(g): 99
Fiber(g): 7
Sodium(mg): 2750

You know at the bottom of nutritional facts where it says based on a daily consumption of 2,000 calories? At least it's good protein.
